Covid-19 Vaccination in the US Slows Down as Delta Variant Infection Increases

The US Covid-19 vaccination rate is slowing down while the dangerous and highly transmissible Delta variant is rapidly spreading over the country. As a result, experts fear that there will be a huge increase in the Covid-19 cases. The administered Coronavirus vaccine doses per day have reduced by 55.3 percent from the earlier week, as per the recent weekly report of the US CDC. Around 46.4 percent of the United States population is completely vaccinated against the deadly Covid-19. Also, 54.2 percent of the population has got partial vaccination as of June 29.

Moreover, about 154.2 million people have been fully vaccinated. However, certain states like Arkansas, Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, Wyoming, and Tennessee have very low vaccination rates. Even the White House has confirmed that the US will not be able to complete the goal of President Joe Biden for getting 70 percent of American adults to get at least one vaccine dose by July 4.

Increasing Infections by the Delta Variant

Amid the slowing down of the vaccination rate, the Covid-19 infections by the highly contagious Delta variant are rising. According to CDC, the Delta variant infections proportion for the 2-week period ended on June 19, where it was expected to increase up to 20.6 percent across the nation and be greater in some areas. The infections happening due to the Delta variant are currently accounting for one-fifth of the newly diagnosed cases of Covid-19 in the US, said the CDC.

Rochelle Walensky, the CDC director, has warned that the variant is anticipated to become a dominant strain of coronavirus in the US. In Los Angeles County, the speed of spreading of the Delta variant is prompting officials to restore the mask guidance again for public indoor spaces. The reinstating of masks guidance will be done regardless of the vaccination status.

The voluntary mask guidance is required until the officials of health can understand how and to whom the Delta variant is spreading, said the county’s public health department. Experts are concerned that the variants can cause the Covid-19 resurgence if the unvaccinated people do not take action appropriately.

The mRNA Covid-19 vaccines that are made by Moderna and Pfizer are doing great in holding up against the Delta variant, as per the chief medical advisor of the White House, Anthony Fauci. The US officials are constantly urging Americans to get complete vaccination as fast as possible.
